Art Gallery Director
Pay range: $14.00 – $15.56/hour
The University of West Florida Art Department, in Pensacola, Florida, has an opening for a full-time Art Gallery Director. The Art Gallery Director’s principal responsibilities include all phases of curating, planning, scheduling, installing, managing, promoting, documenting, and assessing an annual series of art exhibitions including oversight of educational materials and ancillary programs such as lectures, panel discussions, workshops, etc. Additional responsibilities include working with the Graphic Design Interns on promotional materials, Museum Practicum (individual study) students, oversight of the museum budget, and coordinating joint programming with the Pensacola Museum of Art.
The position requires excellent oral and written communication skills, the ability to work collaboratively with others as well as to manage projects and deadlines independently, and the capacity to maintain simultaneous priorities.
Minimum Qualifications: M.A. in Museum Studies or Art History, MFA in Visual Art, or graduate degree in any field of the visual arts, including: arts management or art education and 1-3 years’ experience in a university and/or non-profit gallery or museum setting. College teaching experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of contemporary art. A record of exhibition organization and knowledge of and experience in producing gallery publications. Ability to work towards long-term programming and institutional development and to work diplomatically with a variety of people is essential. Excellent writing, communication, and computer skills. Proficiency in a digital environment required. Ability to act as a persuasive spokesperson and liaison for the school and gallery with the public and with the city and state arts organizations including the Florida Art in State Building Program. Ability to manage public sculpture on campus and its programming, including emergency planning for severe weather. Driver’s license required. Candidate will be expected to travel regionally to accompany art work. Willingness to develop grant proposals expected.
