Massachusetts College of Art and Design (MassArt) Gets $12.6 Million for New Exhibition Space

MassArt Raises $12.6 M. for New Exhibition Space, with Donors Including Alum Arne Glimcher—ARTnews

The Massachusetts College of Art and Design (MassArt) in Boston has raised $12.6 million for the transformation of its Bakalar & Paine Galleries exhibition space, which is expected to reopen in 2020. The college surpassed its $12 million goal, engaged 424 donors, and received the first $1 million gift from Arne Glimcher, founder of the Pace Gallery and an alumnus of MassArt.

The funds raised will support the “full transformation” of the 8,000-square-foot, three-floor gallery space. The renovations—which began in June 2017 with the construction of a new exterior plaza outside the Bakalar & Paine Galleries and the installation of an underground utilities system—include improved public access with a visible front entrance and elevator, new climate-control systems, a space dedicated to gallery education, an expanded preparatory workshop, and curatorial offices.
