Ringling College of Art and Design is seeking a Gallery professional to oversee the galleries and exhibitions on the main campus. The position requires a dynamic and experienced individual for the position of Director of Galleries and Chief Curator. The Galleries program of Ringling College of Art and Design includes exhibitions and activities that celebrate the work and productions of students, faculty and alumni. The galleries on campus include the Lois and David Stulberg Gallery, Richard and Barbara Basch Gallery, Patricia Thompson Gallery, and Willis Smith Gallery. These galleries also host one-person, group and thematic exhibitions that include local, national and international artist, exhibitors and presenters, as well as providing community programming in the form of lectures, forums, panel discussions, and performing art events.
The Director of Galleries and Chief Curator is responsible for content and context for exhibition programs and is responsible for envisioning an innovative, engaging curatorial program that contributes to the educational experiences of our students. They will establish an exciting and innovative calendar that engages the diverse audiences of the Galleries, working to promote and showcase student, faculty and alumni work in keeping with Ringling College’s strategy to achieve preeminence.
To be successful, the candidate will display a strong knowledge of contemporary visual arts, art history, and an effective record of exhibitions programming and management skills, professional experience in planning, design, and installation of exhibitions, supervisory experience, computer literacy, and strong interpersonal skills.
- Undergraduate Degree with 2 years of curatorial experience at a gallery and/or museum, and history of successfully managing exhibitions.
- Master’s Degree
- 3 or more years of curatorial experience at a gallery and/or museum, and history of successfully managing exhibitions.
