The College of Visual Arts & Design (CVAD) Department at the University of North Texas is seeking to hire a Curator to join our team. Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
- Function as Director of the galleries.
- Curate and lead the development of exhibitions, programming, and interpretation.
- Hire and supervise staff.
- Collaborate with college and university partners to cultivate donor relationships and seek external support for operations, programming, and endowment.
- Serve as co-chair of the university’s Art in Public Places Committee.
- Collaborate with College of Visual Arts and Design stakeholders towards the integration of the gallery in the pedagogical mission of the college.
The successful candidate will possess the following Bachelor’s Degree in related field and five years of professional related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:
- Relevant graduate degree.
- Demonstrated experience in leading curatorial projects.
- Experience working in an academic environment or in collaboration with academic partners.
- Evidence of successful fund-raising experience.
The CVAD Art Galleries include three recently built or renovated spaces, including student galleries. Non-student-run spaces include a 2,700 sq ft newly purpose built anchor gallery. Other relevant spaces include back of house work preparation space, vault, and adjacent viewing/study space. Reporting staff includes a full-time Registrar, salaried graduate student employees, and hourly student workers.
