One-year, part-time position available at the Bowdoin College Museum of Art to assist the Preparator/Technician as directed in handling and storing art objects according to professionally accepted art handling techniques and conservation practices. The position requires daily lifting and moving of art objects, materials and containers weighing up to 50 lbs. This is a grant-funded position to enable the Museum to relocate and reorganize part of the collection in a new storage facility.

20 hours/week between 8:30am – 5:00pm, Monday-Friday
A high school diploma or GED is required; a BA in art history, studio art, design or related field is preferred. Applicants must possess strong carpentry skills and training with a variety of power tools; demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to collaborate well with the collections management team. Good judgement, prudence and carefulness, especially when working with art objects. A valid driver’s license and the ability to meet the requirements of the College’s Motor Vehicle Use Policy is required.
At least 3 years of art handling experience in museum, gallery or equivalent setting, and training and experience in accepted fine arts handling techniques is required.
